World Jamboree for Burn Children

2nd World Jamboree for Burn Children 2008

Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada August 4th-10th, 2008

Burn Camps, Burn Retreats, and support groups have become an integral part of our community over the last few years and have played a huge role in assisting young burn survivors to recover and take up roles that allow them to become fully contributing members in their communities once again. What is not widely known is the role that Canada has played in developing this post burn rehabilitation model.

Since the late 1980’s Canada has continued to be a world leader in new innovations and the latest addition of Youth retreats for Burn Survivors was developed by the Canadian Burn Foundation with the template for those retreats now being used in several other countries.

The 2nd World Jamboree for Burn Children 2008 will be held Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, August 4th-10th, 2008.

South Africa 2006It is estimated that up to 125 people will be in Cape Breton for this event and you will of course be welcome to stay to enjoy the tourist areas. Cape Breton is no stranger to hosting Burn Camps and for ten years now children from all over the Maritimes have attended the Atlantic Burn Camp hosted by the Cape Breton Fire Fighters Burn Care Society. In 2005 we entertained guests from Taiwan and in 2006 we had guests from North Carolina, USA attended the camp. The hospitality that the Maritimes is famous for becomes yet even more well known after these events.

The positive impact on young burn survivors in Nova Scotia and around the world will also have a measurable effect on our youth as they learn and grow and see first hand the Global Village we inhabit.

World JamboreeThe 2nd World Jamboree for Burned Children is a huge opportunity for so many people from Cape Breton to Asia, Europe to Africa and it will have a truly life changing effect on those involved.

The program will consist of camp activities such as swimming, talent shows, kayaking, and team building events as well as out trips to the Bra Dður Lakes, Fort Louisberg, and Baddeck where Alexander Graham Bell lived and the Telephone Museum there is named after him. There will also be typical Maritime hospitality and entertainment which will be sure to please everyone present.
